This Development Updates page aims to document sneak peeks, promised updates, and other public information about site development that does not necessarily reflect on the website at the time of reporting.

2022
September
- 14: The cat creator demo for the site went live, with the breeds Longhair, Moontail (Ribbon), Ragdoll, Shorthair, and Snowfoot. The overcoat genes Basic, Calico, Cardinal, Cloudy, Patches, Tiger, and Tuxedo. The undercoat genes Basic, Day, and Gradient. The accent genes Basic, Cheeks, Lollipop, and Mittens. The colors available can be found on the Colors page.
- 22: The pre-launch page for the Kickstarter went live.
October
- 5: The Kickstarter went live and hit its goal within the first twelve hours of the campaign.
- 13: The world page featuring a lore overview of each of the seven Boroughs went live.
- 16: A teaser for five new colors and their palettes to be introduced at launch was shown. Those colors are Sheep, Raisin, Possum, Thunder, and Apple.
November
- 2: Full lineart for the Bovine breed was shown.
- 5: The Kickstarter ends successfully. It was announced that kit accessories, despite the stretch goal not being hit, will still be fulfilled through personal funds[1]. Additionally, the previous amount of 20 total planned Breeds was increased to be 22.
December
- 5: The additional Colors that will be available at launch were announced. The full lineart for the Prancer breed was shown. An investor in the game enabled the team to work on a mobile application.
2023
January
- 8: A preview of the UI for the profile and camp were shown. The full palettes for the Colors were revealed and an estimate of the number of items available at launch was revealed.

February
- 3: The deadline for additional add-ons to be purchased by Kickstarter backers. Emails had to be sent to the Paw Borough team by February 2nd, 11:59 PM EST to be able to purchase add-ons.
- 5: Assets for the game were shown.
March
- 8: Assets for the game were shown alongside a preview of the Guild system.
April
- 6: Assets for the game were shown as well as a more thorough explanation of the game attached to the Guild system.
May
- 10: Assets, UI designs for various site features, and a new direction for genes were revealed.
- The Tiger gene was updated to reflect the new direction for genes.
June
- 8: Lots of stuff!
- Six Companions were revealed, 3 of which being Kickstarter backer-designed
- Updated art for the Bovine
- Some new icons and tooltip UI
- The Cardinal gene was shown with the new art direction
- White Coverage was revealed as a mechanic
- The Prowler is replacing the Snowfoot as a starter breed
July
- 11: A new monthly update
- Four Companions were revealed, 3 of which being Kickstarter backer-designed

- Slight changes made to color breeding system, now referred to as "Light Mixing" instead of "Paint Mixing" in the previous update

- Abyssal receives finished header art as well as a new backdrop

- Fixed an ordering bug with moving widgets on the User Profile, logic now works as intended

September
- 21: New monthly update

- We found the bug! Only one hue was showing up for previews due to the spreasheet being misread. Squashed!
- Added bitter root breeding cooldown to the dam if a session is canceled

- Demo'd functionality of the cat profile, including relationships and viewing equipped items
- Demo'd item card functionality, including a rudimentary flip animation to view tertiary item information
- Demo'd accessory preview functions via item card navigation, using both default dolls and cats the user owns
- Opened a PR to: update cat profile item preview to handle smaller screens

- Squashed several bugs, including a codemirror bug, a profile clicking bug, and a drag and drop bug
- Built out the new creator UI
- Built a creator / breeding predictor hybrid for testing
- Working on cat relationships and item mechanics
- Finished picking and inputting over 60 different palettes for Butterfly in a single week

- Relationship management and an item function known as "gift-giving" has also been fleshed out and is fully functional!

- Breakthrough in development! We figured out custom map generation for Guild gameplay!
- Tiles are randomized each time!

- We have functionality for moving and editing elements in the scene builder!
- 16: Discord Dev Update
- Compiling a list of bugs found and so far documented, to tackle after we find stability
- Compiling graphical errors which can be fixed via file editing and hex codes, and quickly fixing for our next push to the site
- Working again at engineering solutions to the site functionality
- Noting feedback on visual preferences for genetics and colors, and going to the drawing board
- 20: Discord Dev Update
- We'll be slowing down this week to give everyone a break but we are currently working on:
- Queuing fixes to bugged files to the live site
- Guild combat tile logic for generating transitional tiles
- Moontail patterns!
- I also want to make a little celebration that we've solved "lice" for the most part, despite having more layers. You should not be seeing any pixelated white outside the lines like before, and this is a big win!

- Hydde has finished working on all tiles for one of our combat/explore locations!
- 29: Discord Dev Update
- We have fixed the Metropolis eye bug, and will be pushing it, alongside file fixes, on Friday!
- Current development is on Guild gameplay, including ironing out map generation and multiplayer team synergies
- Frontend design for combat is complete. Frontend building has reached multiplayer and single-player team assembly!
December

- Metropolis palette fix has been done
- Development is currently focused on team building / guild play.
2024
April
- 2: Discord Dev Update
- Team creation for the Guild has been built
- Working on combat instances!
- 11: Discord Dev Update
- Movement and hit-boxes for combat is working
- Fixed bugs with team creation and recruitment. Users can now smoothly register new teams, add cats to a team, and receive dashboard notifications to join teams from friends.
- Uploading team emblems also works smoothly!
- 14: Discord Dev Update
- Lollipop has had its colors assessed and replaced with more complimentary choices! 120 colors had replacements.
- Tulip, Ruby, and Raddish were incorrectly inputted. Fixed!
- 25: Discord Dev Update
- Rudimentary logic for combat NPCs is being worked on. We can currently faint other cats on the board and use moves for hit damage.
- 28: Discord Dev Update
- Found and fixed all the white coverage issues!!! Next push they should be consistent across the board!
May
- 10: Discord Dev Update
- Battling is near completion. NPCs attack back, status conditions have been implemented, dice rolls and statistic calcs have been implemented. Huge push for the combat. Currently testing it.
- Moontails are missing Overgrowth and gene modifications such as Tigerface. Very close to done!
June
- 4: Discord Dev Update
- Wrapping up errand play! We're almost done with MVP guild play. Working on action log text and item drop table architecture.
- In the same vein, item tables are being populated with a final MVP item count. We'll begin on placeholder art for whatever cannot be completed for alpha/beta, and then our artists will slowly build out from there with replacing it!
- Daily duty functionality is next, once we finish the above drop table structuring.
- We have mockups for markets and purchasing items.
- 18: Discord Dev Update
- Pushed a few demo fixes. Long term mobile issue was fixed. Lots of white errors were corrected.
- Sorted through 150 out of 500+ applications, sorting ongoing
- Working on flea market functionality on backend.
- Working on icon and NPC art on visual end.
- Mockups for NPC site-hosted stores have begun.
- 25 Discord Dev Update
- All applications have been sorted!
- Item pool logic and seeding has been implemented! We now can control what drops where and at what rarity
- Errand / combat fixes have been pushed, notably a textlog.
- Starting on mockups for cooking/crafting. Site-hosted shops are done!
August

- 13 Discord Dev Update
- Hi all! Just to fill everyone in on where we are at! We found a huge bug in the Flea Market which will take a day to complete. We are also taking some time to setup a Zendesk in order to more seamlessly take bug reports and tickets during testing.
- To recap for 08/13/24
- Flea Market fixes being pushed. That feature had a lot of odds and ends that took a few days to polish, but this last bug should be the end of it.
- Internal forums testing happening soon! Soon as the flea market bug is fixed.
- Setting up Zendesk to be up and running this Friday.
- When sending codes, we'll announce the day that we will be letting everyone into the site ahead of time!

- Flea market bug squashed!
- Deploying forum testing today!
- Working on Sweetwater Bazaar implementing!
- Art wise, 90% of icons have been sketched for placeholding: 14/175 left to go! Several crests have been completed. Furze the crafting NPC has had her sketch started. Leopard has been fully illustrated on 5 poses. Mockups are far ahead as user settings was just completed. All 5 Romanovtsa variants have been designed. Moontail blossom was completed.
- 15 Discord Dev Update
- Forums are working! Some kinks to work out but we're currently spamming it with thousands of images and millions of characters of text to test the limits. So it's currently pretty laggy. Really clean look though! I'll see if I can get some video for you all!
- 19 Discord Dev Update
- Hey all! I don't want to give a monthly update til codes have gone out! Which we're currently re-pushing forums to cover the big bugs, and doing a tertiary sweep of all the mechanics to see that we got everything major. In which codes and a date will go out.
- Right now we're in the mindset of we don't want to make the mistake of setting a date and then suddenly needing to push it because something big was discovered! Considering how many big bugs we found at first, we're going to be careful!
- I will however post a small check-in on what art we have been working on, but will not count as the monthly update!
- 22 Discord Dev Update
- Remember the "big sweep" we mentioned needing to do? Doing that as we speak, and going to continue very late into the night! This will comprehensively archive any last fixes. All working functionality has been put onto the server at once for needling!
- 26 Discord Dev Update
- Sweeping and fixing all high priority issues found. All hands on deck. The un-borkening! On god, people will be testing before August ends. Thanks everyone for sticking out.
- Working on icons, item uploading, mass file formatting, Leopard, Fyret genes, Moontail Cardinal, Gilded Crest Accessory, Jute, and Woolen.

- Huge list of things fixed. URL navigation, white coverage on kits in the alpha server, universal x universal breeding functioning as intended in the alpha server, breadcrumbs, user onboarding, cat scene building, etc.

- Refactoring user profile view, dynamic links are working now. Added a silly temporary fallback guy image for users not logged in. Working on nursery polish.

September
- 1 Discord Dev Update
- Devs have been working this weekend! Namely tooling and bug bashing. We fixed an onboarding bug, a few flea market issues, and an errands bug. We also fixed a white coverage issue.
- 26 Discord Dev Update
- We have morph items beginning to work! Kind of a huge lift that took all week, but VERY cool functionality and user QOL with previews!
- 27 Discord Dev Update
- All metamorphics are working as intended! And we have a pretty extensive admin panel for adding new ones. We can control color pools, collections of traits, and fine tune how they apply. This is pretty sick!
- For example, we can now easily create a morph item which could apply Overgrowth Blossom to Accent 1, and Cheeks to Accent 2, all in one item. We can add items which shuffle white coverage with all 4 amounts, or which only shuffles one amount (including none!)
- We can make Shufflestones target one, two, three, or all four slots of colors, and control the pool of colors the stone picks from.
- That is to say, from an item design perspective, we have a lot we can do! Super exciting!

- Looking to push metamorphics to alpha! We're testing now!
October
- 2 Discord Dev Update
- Working on: cat IDs, friend requests, incense, and NPC marketplaces
- Cat IDs were just finished up and are being tested, and will be pushed to Alpha. We made it so the display doesn't include NPC cats, which was just on our list of general to-dos.
- Working on: Moontail glows, new library backdrop, staff crest, transferring more accessories on different poses, and Fyret / Bovine genes for this month (we have been switching between poses to keep progress steady and artists away from burnout)
- We finished Leopard on Moontails! Take a peek at the wing designs by Asp!
- 7 Discord Dev Update
- Working on sitewide vendors (Wheatley & Crowley, Winnifred), User ID/Cat IDs, and friend requests today
- On art side, completed Gilded Crest set, formatting/recoloring the completed Woolen set, completed Creeping Thicket
- Working on Necromantic Cloak, Guard, and Regal set! Making great time!
- Several team members have been effected by the hurricane, and this is inevitably going to show in some of our progress, but we're ensuring these members are safe and prepared as a higher priority than their production levels
- On the good news: We have completed Leopard, are more than halfway done with Moontail glow coloring with already formatted files, and are looking to have Leopard and Moontails up this next update. Though because of this, the update will come a little later; around the 15th. We're confident enough now in our progress to be able to say they're coming next, however!

- Friendlists are working! UI is clean, dashboard is hooked up, we're currently testing and are hoping to push to Alpha soon!

- Working on Moontail file finals to push to the demo. Over the weekend we worked on catching all color disparities and tooling the wings.
- Working on Leopard alterations today. Our system means we can see any color fixes live!
- The whole team is very excited for the next update!

November
- 5 Discord Dev Update
- Finished UI design for the pelt submission process! Digging into it! It took a lot of consideration to come to something we like, but we're very excited.
- User settings are being worked on, with progress on password changing, icon changing, and email changing
- Decor stylistic direction change was done to make decor most similar to cats (simple soft-cell shading, fully lined.) Decor pieces testing this are being worked on.
- Finished Gilded item, Regal set, Necromantic Cloak, and Creeping Thicket on all starter poses. Protogear has been lined for all poses. Working on lining for Rainbow Hanfu.
- Working on recolors for Creeping Thicket.
December

2025
January
- 15 Discord Dev Update
- We just developed the capabilities to generate hundreds of item codes custom tailored in seconds. Tested, and it worked! Generating Kickstarter reward codes will now be a breeze.
- We have finished nearly all accessories on all starter poses. The only items missing a few pose renders are the Iridescent Trail and the Guard Set, both of which are being actively worked on.
- Huge lift on optimizing for mobile. We now have most pages on the website working on mobile. It's not perfect, but it's getting good enough for the start of a closed beta. Slightly shoddy, but functional for mass testing and further improvement.
- Pelt submissions are working. We have moderation tools and extensive testing tools for users. Users can now use the dynamic layering system on unclipped pelts by making two layers in a PSD. Users can test pelt previews on any cat they own. We also developed a coverage % system which will help determine the cost of a print.
- The pelt shop has been implemented and is undergoing testing, including version 1.0 of a rough tagging system, allowing for extensive custom filtering. The goal is, after beta user testing, to expand this system site wide to forum threads, cat profiles, and eventually the notebook feature.
- We're tentatively looking at dates for closed beta between February and March, and this week will hopefully help us determine a final decision for an official announcement. Thank you for the patience!
- As an aside, in the preview this was version 1 of the pelt submission testing. The terms "male" and "female" will be replaced with the venus and mars symbols.
- 27 Discord Dev Update
- Pelts are mobile optimized! (v 1.0, mobile designs will go through improvement iterations)
- We've been working on fasttracking lower fidelity features to increase early beta playability. This is in lieu of the combat system being currently unrefined, this includes:
- An "archetypes" system, which rewards intentioned breeding / genetic alterations of a cat
- The fauna / faunapedia studying system
- Working on economic intake forums for giving to beta testers
- Codes were finished
- Colors for Protogear are being selected (here is a preview), after which the queue includes the Obsidian Helm, the Iridescent Trail, and the Gilded Crest
- The last Guard set pose is being worked on, in which the team will celebrate a full completion of all accessories on the first 3 starter breeds 🎉
- The Monarch Scepter has also been put through the pipeline, and is under progress
