General Observation

Once a symbol of luxury, the Adorvid has since been adopted among the pirate crews of Abyssal. Trained to swoop into enemy ships and snatch valuables, an Adorvid never returns with empty talons.

Entry I

The Adorvid first appeared off the windblown cliffs of Harvest's coast as a wild progenitor species. Early observers noted its habit for scavenging, but collectors quickly focused on its uncommon white plumage, and its habit of wearing shiny objects. Nobles in Abyssal began importing them into a breeding program, crossing the most impressive birds, and encouraging them to display jewels.

The purebred line became a craze among wealthy noblemen, where the birds performed tricks and paraded around their gemstone collars. By the end of the Second Age, an age where Abyssal settlements routinely fared better than others, the white Adorvid’s reputation as a status symbol eclipsed its wild kin.

When the line of white Adorvids spread to the pirate coast of Abyssal, sailors noticed the Adorvid’s knack for swiping trinkets. Pirates purchased or stole local Adorvids and used them for thievery, sabotage, and as messengers in the smuggling trade. Some captains experimented with cross-breeding native Adorvids with imported falcons. The imported falcons remained stubbornly wild, but the resulting hybrids showed even more affinity for raids and tricky mimicry.

Today, any respectable pirate ship carries at least two Adorvids on board, and they are considered highly valuable members of the crew.
