Entry I

Northern Sapphurie sightings are few and far between, but it has had enough chance encounters to make its way into widespread folklore. Sapphurie are most often seen very high in the sky. There have never been more than 7 ground encounters.

Due to its rarity, Northern cultures believe no more than two Sapphurie ever exist at one time. Other researchers interpret its spotty sightings as evidence for widespread migration, though this is not supported by further evidence. Southern cultures in Kotemara were not previously aware of its existence.

Despite these legends, there are considerable differences in each documented Sapphurie encounter, and most professional scholars agree that multiple individuals exist at once, but their territories are so broad that they rarely overlap with one another.

Thus, Northern Sapphurie population is likely stable, but critically low compared to apex fauna in neighboring regions. Settlements can go decades between sightings. Most textbooks list the Sapphurie as a "semi-mythological" creature, at least until more is discovered.

Despite its rarity, the Sapphurie has made an extensive cultural impact. The story "Savi and the Sapphire Serpent," a multi-volume fantasy series, is a popular piece of entertainment for older kits.

Savi, the protagonist, is a young Ragdoll boy from a small village in Northwestern Harvest. Savi saves a Sapphurie egg from bandits, then forms a "mindmerged bond" with it after it returns to his village, and saves him from drowning.

The first book follows the duo as they are chased by bandits, cross mountain ranges, and discover the true origins of Sapphurie eggs. The cover features Savi riding the Sapphurie through the clouds on a saddle. Critics note its wish fulfillment and lack of realism in its portrayal of Sapphuries, citing that it may encourage children to interfere with local wildlife and bother dragon eggs—something which is notoriously dangerous, if not fatal. The “mindmerge” superpower is entirely fictitious.

Illustrations in later editions feature different colored Sapphurie, sometimes silver, red, or black, instead of its famous deep blue. This has contributed to confusion in its taxonomy, and led to the spread of misinformation on the species; though the author infamously claims she has seen Sapphurie of these colors in her village.
