General Observation
Folklore says the Kitsugi emerges where nature has been scarred, bringing forth a sense of renewal. Though rarely encountered, stories are told of catfolk glimpsing the Kitsugi during quiet moments just before dawn. Very few have ever seen it, and many do not believe it to be real.
Entry I
The Kitsugi appears in every ancient culture's recordings in some way or another, with references pre-dating the Dark Age-implying that it either does not exist and is a fictional figment, or that its progenitor species was recorded before the Starfall Impact.
In Luna, the Kitsugi is a harbinger of sorts. Luna culture frequently interprets it as a sign of impending societal change.
In Sol, the Kitsugi folklore focuses on violence and vengeance. Sol sages tell stories of Kitsugis haunting old battlegrounds.
Tales of their gold-veined fur consider it an ultimate prize for hunters. Though no hunter has ever brought a fallen carcass to market.
Abyssal accounts from as far as the western cluster also describe similar Kitsugi sightings, but the island populations largely treat it as a local pest. In their version, the fox carries sparks from the Wastes in its coat and spreads madness to their livestock. However, no evidence of its biological abilities or lack thereof has ever been collected.
All collected remains claimed to come from a Kitsugi have been proven to be fraudulent, or composed of smaller canids. But the lack of taxonomic evidence does not deter the spread of legends surrounding it, as the Kitsugi is among the oldest recorded pieces of folklore on Kotemara, and visually similar accounts across otherwise isolated cultures remain strong evidence for some manner of existing creature.

Trivia
- The Kitsugi’s name is a pun on “kitsune” (a nine tailed fox of Japanese mythology) and “kintsugi” (the Japanese artistic practice of conspicuously repairing pottery with gold), and in a Kickstarter update was mistakenly referred to as a Kintsune, a different pun on these words.
