The Basic Gene was to be an overcoat gene, but was scrapped in development and replaced by the Solid gene, in order to establish a pool of genes that were more stylized, complex and complementary to one another.[1] It was present in the initial version of the demo, at the time of the Kickstarter.

With the Basic overcoat, a cat's undercoat was visible on its chest, underbelly, paws, and tailtip.
