The Day Gene is an undercoat gene. It is a companion gene to the Cloudy overcoat.
The design of this gene strongly resembles clouds.
Cats with this gene have underbellies with a gradient base and cloud-shaped stripes. The stripes are most often a lighter color than the gradient base, but this is not always the case.
