The Cardinal Gene is an overcoat gene.
The design of this gene was likely inspired by Cardinalidae, some species of which feature darker wings, tails and facial markings. It also shares some similarities to colorpoint cats. Cats with this gene have darker markings on their ears, faces, backs, legs and tails. Their eyes and eyebrows are outlined in a lighter color, as are the bases of their ears.
