Gifting

From Paw Borough Wiki
This article is currently a work in progress. Here's what's left to do:
  • Further information about relationships:
    • The types, and their descriptions/criteria.
    • How long each level takes at best and worst conditions.
  • Determine if there's a limit to how many relationships 1 cat can establish.

Gifting is a feature that allows a relationship to be established between two cats, a necessity for breeding. The relationship must level 1 or higher (positive or negative) for the two cats to breed. The flavor or nature of a gift matters when creating a relationship. Sending a gift with traits the recipient doesn't like results in a negative relationship and vice versa. Outside of breeding gifting is necessary for maintaining a daily streak, or completing hourly tasks.

Sending Gifts

To send a gift head over to a cats profile and find 'Give Gift' at the top of the screen, for mobile users this option will be hidden in a dropdown menu. After selecting 'Give Gift' the gifting menu will pop up, from here users may select the gift giver and the gift itself. Any gift sent to the recipient will be consumed and is not returnable.

The gifting menu

After selecting a gift to send users may notice a plus (+), or minus (-) sign appear over the items icon. A green plus sign (+) appears if the recipient cat likes the gift, and it will greatly increase the relationship. While a red minus sign (-) appears if the recipient cat dislikes the gift, and it will greatly decrease the relationship. Gifts without either sign means the recipients feelings towards the gift are neutral, and the relationship will slightly increase. The giver of the gift has no affect on the relationship progress, only whether the recipient appreciates the gift.

Cats like their gift if it's their favorite flavor, or the nature matches their own. Cats dislike their gift if it's their disliked flavor, or an opposing nature. Cats are neutral towards their gift if the previous conditions aren't met, or the item has both a positive and a negative flavor/nature that cancel each other out. Opposing natures are detailed in the below 'Natures' section. The flavor or nature of an item can be quickly checked by selecting the red question mark (?) while in the gifting menu. After selecting the question mark a small pop up card of summarized information about the item will appear.

Users may send gifts to a cat they don't own. The process is the same, minus waiting for the owner of the recipient to accept the gift request. Gift requests may be accessed in a users Dashboard, the request will be within 'Gift Exchanges' under social notifications.

A cat with this icon has recently received a gift, or sent a gift.

Cats who have already sent or received a gift today will have a blue giftbox symbol appear over their icon when they're the recipient. The icon does not appear if the cat is the gift giver, even if they aren't able to send or receive a gift for the day.

Limitations

The below limitations are intended behaviors.

  • Cats that are related to each other within 5 generations can't send each other gifts, as gifting is primarily a breeding feature currently.
  • A cat may only receive or send a gift once every rollover.
  • Only Rarity 0 and Rarity 1 items are accepted as gifts.
  • A cat can not send themselves a gift.

Relationships & Progress

Relationship progress may be sped up using File:Lover Letter.png Lover Letters or  Hatemail. Both require a relationship to be at level 1 in the respective direction for them to work. Love Letters increase a relationship up to Mate status (level TBA), and Hatemail decreases a relationship down to Enemies status (level TBA).

Positive relationships are indicated by a blue heart, a blue progress bar, and a blue cat face. The blue hexcode is #625268. Negative relationships are indicated by a purple heart, a purple progress bar, and a purple crossed swords. The purple hexcode is #625268. Neutral relationships are indicated by a grey heart with the number 0, and a grey progress bar. The grey hexcode is #B6B6B6.

Levels

Relationships at level 4 and above receive the bonus to potentially produce 4 kits in one litter at the nursery. Relationships level 3, and lower do not have this bonus. Currently this is the only level benefit for a relationship.

A relationship may go up to level 5.

Add information on levels and how quickly they can be completed in the best case scenarios.

List of relationship types:

  • Family: Direct relatives of the cat (parents or children).
  • Associates: All the relationships a cat has established.
  • Friends: TBA.
  • Mates: TBA.
  • Rivals: TBA.
  • Enemies: TBA.

The type of relationship has no effect on two cats being able to breed together. Instead, as long as the cats have any positive or negative relationship with a level of at least 1 and are not related to one another within 5 generations, they will be able to breed.

Gift Traits

There are two traits that affect whether a gift recipient will like or dislike the gift: flavor and nature. Flavor applies only to  Food items, while nature applies to every other item type. Items may have one or more flavor/nature at once. Opposing flavors or natures will cancel out and result in a neutral reaction. A neutral reaction only positively increases the relationship slightly compared to a favored flavor/nature. Further details on how favored or oposing flavors/natures affect a relationship are detailed in the above section 'Sending Gifts'.

Flavors

Food flavors currently do not affect anything outside of gifting.

List of flavors:

  •  Bitter
  •  Salty
  •  Savory
  •  Sour
  •  Spiced
  •  Sweet

Natures

Every nature has an opposing counterpart. Gifting a cat with their opposing nature results in a negative decrease in the relationship. While sending a gift with the same nature positively increases the relationship. Other natures result in a neutral reaction, and the relationship positively increases slightly.

List of opposite natures:

  •  Lonely ⇔  Protective
  •  Hardy ⇔  Gentle
  •  Heroic ⇔  Mischievous
  •  Jolly ⇔  Cranky
  •  Relaxed ⇔  Nervous
  •  Timid ⇔  Assertive
  •  Careful ⇔  Headstrong

The descriptions for each nature as seen in-game. These have no effect on gameplay, and will not limit any cats or playstyles.

Icon Nature Description
Lonely Introverts by nature, Lonely cats prefer the quiet company of their own thoughts. Though they slow to trust, their loyalty, once earned, is unshakeable.
Hardy Built from grit and stubborn will, Hardy cats shake off injuries like stray whiskers. Socially, they're known to be both distant and dependable. Even as they stumble and fall, they always land on their paws.
Heroic Thrilled to take on challenges and bound by their sense of honor, Heroic cats throw themselves into the unknown without fear. Known to be knuckle-brained and to act without thinking, a Heroic cat is often followed by a fussy medic
Jolly With a great sense of humor and a wealth of compassion, Jolly cats prance through life with a sunny vibrancy. Though prone to fits of sadness and tears just as easily as their giddyness, Jolly cats keep life interesting for a camp.
Relaxed Easygoing and carefree, Relaxed cats take life as it comes. Seldom do they sweat about the anxieties of everyday, and others often enjoy their refreshing serenity. They're frequent travelers and nomads.
Timid Preferring to blend into the background rather than stand out in the spotlight, Timid cats are shy and hesitant in all walks of life. Though they often miss out on new opportunities, their attention to detail is a valuable addition to any group.
Careful While known to occasionally obsess over unnecessary details, Careful cats are paragons of caution and dependability. They're deep thinkers, difficult to trick, and never leap forward without looking twice.
Protective Protective cats are aggressive defenders against the dangers of the outside. With a watchful eye and a bristled tail, they fight off any harm that comes to their loved ones with an eager claw.
Gentle Soft-pawed and warm-hearted, Gentle cats tread lightly through the world. They work to bring comfort to those who need it most. Gentle cats are sensitive and empathetic individuals, easy to hurt and even easier to soothe
Mischievous Masters of whimsy, Mischievous cats thrive on the delight of a well-timed lark. Often regarded as weirdos, charming savants, or antagonizing tricksters, it takes a special cat to enjoy their company.
Cranky Quick to grumble, quicker to swipe. Cranky cats are defined by a lasting scowl and a low tolerance for nonsense. They don't tend to be popular with their peers, but beneath their prickly exterior holds a heart just as caring as any other.
Nervous With twitching ears and a tightly curied tail, a Nervous cat is always on edge. Every voice holds a threat and every sound could be danger. Prone to catastrophizing, Nervous cats do best with an assuring shoulder to lean on-and may require a bit of heartfelt reassurance now and again.
Assertive Bold and undaunted, Assertive cats refuse to be overlooked. Their words hold a heaviness and their presence demands attention. Often a leader or an aggressive rival, Assertive cats command a room no matter the setting.
Headstrong Once their mind is made up, not even a barrelling train could make a Headstrong cat budge. They're difficult to get along with, but more passive natures can appreciate a cat who takes initiative. They are determined, stubborn, and make compromise someone else's problem.
